Your Club, Your Country Draw – Thank You

A big thank you to all the parents, family and friends of all our Mini, Youths, Senior Ladies and Mens’ teams, and all our Clubs’ supporters, WORLDWIDE for their fantastic support to our ‘Your Club, Your Country’, draw.  In every way this club is YOUR club and thanks to YOUR generosity, Carrick RFC raised over a whopping €5,000.  Once again, on behalf of every player, every supporter present and in years to come, thanks for YOUR support.  Best of luck to ALL our entrants in the 10 draws for some fantastic prizes!

Minis Home Blitz v Claremorris on 10/12/2016

Another big thank you to all the parents, and especially our Under 11 parents and Coaches, for coordinating this Home Blitz v Claremorris.  Claremorris came with good numbers and it was a fantastic morning of Mini Rugby for all the teams.  Carrick was well able to hold their own and every child seemed to enjoy themselves, especially after the well-earned, customary hot dogs!  The spread back at the IWCA Center was a credit to the support of our parents and a big thank you from all the Mini Coaches and parents for helping out.

Training continues for one more week before we break up for Christmas.  Our next home blitz will be in the New Year and our Under 10 Coaches and parents will be coordinating this.

Carrick U14 secure home win 38 -5 over Castlebar

Carrick U14s hosted Castlebar for their first home League game of the season on Sunday November 8. The severe weather conditions didn’t  dampen the enthusiasm of either team for a hard fought encounter.

Castlebar got the better of the early encounters in the first 10 minutes pinned Carrick down inside their own 22.  Castlebar came very close to scoring and only dogged defense kept the Carrick side of the scoresheet clean. As the game progressed Carrick’s pack began to assert themselves creating the platform for some superb back line passing & running. Three tries in the opening half and two conversions gave Carrick a respectable 19-0 halftime lead.

As conditions deteriorated in the second half, Castlebar pressed hard testing Carrick’s defense continuously. The Castlebar scrum began to hold its own against the dominant Carrick pack, giving good ball to their backs creating a well worked try. Castlebar’s continued to press but Carrick’s persistent defence paid off with three breakaway tries and conversions in the second half.

Credit must go to both teams for providing such an entertaining game in what at times were horrific conditions. Overall this was an excellent team performance with the entire squad taking their opportunities when called on.

Scorers for Carrick: Tries E. Boyle, A. Maziya, J. Honeyman. Conversions: A. Shortt

Referee; P. Hollidge

Carrick RFC Seniors score 39 – 0 win over Tuam

A home victory for Carrick RFC saw them notch up a scoreline of 37-0 over opponents Tuam RFC in the second leg of the league at the weekend.  Despite having a number of players out with injuries the yellow and black jerseys of Carrick were all over the opposition as they took the match with a total of 6 tries.

An early penalty against Tuam saw fly-half Kevin Coffey put the first points of the match up on the board, giving Carrick a 3-0 lead, quickly followed by the first try of the match from team captain Colm McWeeney, taking the scoreline to a healthy 8-0.  Cormac O’Keeffe came on soon after to take over from Derek Beirnes at scrum-half, scoring Carrick’s second try of the match within moments of coming on to the pitch with another Coffey conversion taking the score up to 15-0. loganvtuam

Carrick’s confidence grew along with the scoreline, and when Stephen Guckian came on as a blood substitution shortly before the half-time whistle, he took full advantage of a scrappy lineout ball from Tuam, bursting through the back line to run the ball 70 metres down the pitch to score try number three for Carrick, sending them into the second half on a 20-0 lead.

The second half of the match brought more of the same for Carrick, with two successive tries from second row player Dermot Foley and Michael Martin converting to bring the score up to an impressive 32-0.  Tuam tried in vain to hold Carrick off but following some incredible interplay between the backs, Will Weaver at 12 broke through to score the final try of the match, giving Carrick a final scoreline of 37-0.

With some serious commitment to training over recent weeks, the Carrick side are now starting to reap the rewards for their efforts and will be looking forward to their next league commitment against Connemara in two weeks’ time.  New members are always welcome and anyone interested in joining the club should contact the club captain on 086 823 8795.
