CRFC Under 11s IRFU Connacht Blitz in Athlone cancelled.

Unfortunately, due to the recent weather conditions, the Under 11s IRFU Connacht Blitz in Athlone was cancelled last Saturday, the 23/03/2013.  We will update all parents & players by email of any re-schedule date as soon as we are informed.

Connacht Rugby Youth Trials

The final round of screening trials for age grade players will take place during the Easter Break.  During this period both the UNDER 14 and UNDER 15 trials will be held on a Regional Basis.  The UNDER 16 trials are still centrally based in Galway.  CRFC Youth Section are delighted that we have seven players trying out in the three age sections for Connacht positions.  On behalf of the CRFC Mini Section, best of luck with your Trials.

Last Training Session of the Season

On Saturday last, we had our final training session  of the season.  Despite the freezing cold conditions this didn’t deter the resolute character of our young players.  The session was as full and busy as any other and a credit to every single player for their commitment to their team, their club and to themselves.  Thanks to every player and parent for their commitment during the year.  We hope that you have a great summer and we look forward  to seeing you in September.

Also, a big thank you to all the coaches for giving up, not just a few or the odd Saturday morning, but all their Saturday mornings for the last season.  Thanks lads for your commitment to the next generation of Brian O’Driscolls & Shane Leydens.  Enjoy your well deserved break!!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Thank you to all the players and parents who supported the club and turned out for the biggest ever Carrick on Shannon, St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  The parade was a great success and the players were keen to show off some of their ‘line out and throwing skills’.  The players looked great in their Jerseys and club wear and were a credit to themselves and the club.  From the Mini Coaches and Parade organisers, thanks to all our players.

CRFC Under 8s & 9s IRFU Blitz in Castlebr on 16/03/2013

CRFC Minis Under 8s & Under 9s had an early start for their IRFU Connaught Blitzes in Caslebar last Saturday 16/03/2013.  Coaches Gary, Martin, Seamus & Cathal took their teams to Castlebar on a glorious morning, perfect for rugby.

Carrick RFC U8′s travelled west to Castlebar RFC, home club of Gary one of our U8 Coaches, for the annual Connacht Blitz.  However, there were no divided loyalties here. This team were well drilled and on a mission to maintain their undefeated record for the season and they didn’t dissapoint.  With 3 wins against Castlebar, Ballina and Claremorris and a draw against a second Ballina team, this team did themselves,  their families & the club proud with a spectacular team performance combined with some great individual displays.  It’s great to see this team putting into action what they have learnt in training.    - Coach Gary Molloy

The Under 9s played Castlebar, Ballina and Claremorris.  Against Castlebar, the lads settled in straight away and proved that they certainly had taken on all of what they had been told in training.  There were some good individual play as well as lots of hard team work defending everything for a well deserved victory.

Next up was a big strong Ballina team, however the team were full of confidence after their win and got some good scores early on.  They defended brilliantly working as a team and strengthened by having an extra sub allowed the team to rest more players and keep the pressure on to get another hard fought win.

The team then faced Claremorris and again opened very strong racing in a commanding lead early on, in the second half Claremorris found their feet and reduced that lead. Our lads again showed great defensive awareness tackling tirelessly working as a unit and holding them up on the try line several times before counter attacking to secure another win.

With three excellent wins from three matches and the lads were presented with their medals before heading over for some well earned hot dogs.

Over all the lads showed great team work with subs coming in and out seamlessly, everyone worked for each other to the end. There were a lot of brilliant scores but most impressive was the support work of all the players who can be very proud of how they played. – Coach Seamus Connolly

Thanks to our great hosts for a well organised blitz and their hospitality and to the many families who travelled. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Our Free Open Fun Day is on the 30th of March 2013, Easter Saturday at 11am.  Coach Seamus Connolly is the coordinator for this event and is seeking volunteers, ‘from the club’ e.g. parents of players and senior players and or friends.  Similar to the home blitz, any help would be appreciated and every little bit helps!

Carrick U8s & U9s Blitz in Castlebar

This Saturday our Under 8s and Under 9s are playing their IRFU Connacht Blitz in Castlebar. We wish them the best of luck in all their games and hope above all else, that they have a great time.  We know from experience also that it won’t be just the players who will enjoy themselves, as the Carrick Supporters Club! will more than likely also get smitten by the Rugby bug!! Have a great day.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Don’t forget to arrive on time for this years St. Patrick’s Day parade.  It should be a bit of craic for all and a great way to show our community how big our club is getting every year. By turning up, you may be encouraging other young boys and girls to join our club next season.

Carrick U11 Blitz in Athlone

Carrick’s Under 11s will have their IRFU Connacht Blitz in Athlone this year on Saturday the 23/03/2013.  Coaches Cathal, Eugene & Eunan will be travelling with the Under 11s. Parents are asked to meet for car pooling at the Arch at 8:30am for a 8.45am depart.  Some players will have Jerseys given to them after the St. Patricks’ Day Parade and are reminded to bring them along.  More info will be sent to Parents & Players by email.  Best of luck to all those taking part.

Free Open Fun Day moved to 30/03/2013 – Easter Saturday

Carrick Mini Rugby club will be holding a free Open Fun Day at 11am for any child interested in learning about Mini Rugby and Mini Tag Rugby.  This is our second year to host a free Open Fun day and last year we had games of Tag rugby for new and existing players, bouncy castles for all ages and tea and coffee for parents. There were also displays from our Youths section, with our senior men and women teams assisting in supervision and advice.

All our Mini Coaches are volunteers or parents and IRFU accredited Coaches and Referees. All Mini Coaches are Garda vetted.

It is the clubs’ ambition to allow as many children as possible, learn a new team sport, have fun and help the players keep or improve their fitness.

Community Games

The reason our Open Fun Day has been moved forward is that the Regional Rugby Finals for the Community Games will held in Leitrim Village Community Pitch on Saturday the 6/04/2013.  Up until 5 days ago, Carrick or Leitrim were unrepresented.  Coaches Martin Nee and Aidan Lenehan have an U11 team gathered from the Carrick town area and would be delighted with any support on the day.

CRFC Dinner Dance

This is not for the kids!! All parents and their friends are invited to attend the Annual Club Dinner Dance in the Bush Hotel on Saturday the 20th of April 2013.  The night starts with a Champagne reception at 7pm.  This year we can guarantee fewer speeches and all the prize giving will be during dessert.  It is a great opportunity for players, supporters, sponsors and parents to come together and celebrate the clubs progress.

To confirm your ticket(s) please contact Joe on 087 6380043 or complete the form on the Dinner Dance 2013 page and we’ll reserve a ticket which can be picked up on the evening. Full tables can also be reserved upon request.

Review of CRFC U12s IRFU Blitz in Loughrea on Sat. 09/03/2013

With a very early start, Carrick Under 12s, accompanied by Coaches Gerry Reynolds & Donal Woods travelled to Loughrea for their IRFU Connaught Blitz last Saturday.  Conditions were ideal for good running rugby and Carrick didn’t disappoint their supporters who travelled the distance.  For their first game, Carrick beat Ballina by 30 points to 5.  They drew their two following matches, both ending 5 all against Buccaneers and Ballinasloe (2) only losing one match to a very strong Ballinasloe (1) team by 30 points to nil.

All in all, the squad played some great exciting team rugby and served the club with pride.  Our thanks go to all the players who all played their part and the great support they received from Carrick Supporters Club on the day.

Carrick Players Kit

There are still players/parents!! who have to collect their kit from Elverys in Carrick on Shannon.  Any player who has not collected their kit to date, should do so.  Players & parents can also avail of a 10% reduction on any purchases made on the same day as collecting their kit.

Training

Training for all other age groups continues this week and next week 23/03/2013, as normal in Leitrim Village Community Pitch.  There will be no training on Easter Saturday 30/03/2013.

Thanks for playing your part,

Carrick Mini Coaches

Player/Parent Update: 03/03/2013

March 3, 2013 in Minis, News by CarrickRFCMinis  |  No Comments

Whoooo hooooo!!!

Where do we start?  On Saturday the 02/03/2013 Carrick Minis had a fantastic day, on two fronts.

Ballina Under 10s IRFU Connaught Blitz

We’ll start with the Under 10s who travelled to Ballina for the first of the IRFU Connaught Blitzes this season.  Coach Liam Farrell took the lads to Ballina along with great support from Carrick Minis’ Supporters Club, a large troop of parents!  By all accounts, Carrick Under 10s had three fantastic games and did themselves and the club proud.  In truth, the team won all their games and were presented with a cool patch for the players to remind them of the fun day they had.  Well done lads and thanks to Liam for passing on his skills to the players over the last season.

Home Blitz at Leitrim Community Pitch

Our second ever home blitz this season was at Leitrim Community pitch.  Our co-ordinator again this season was Coach Donal Woods, who organised the event and was assisted on the catering/hospitality end by parent, Linda Reynolds.   Creggs RFC were the visiting team and after our excellent time in Creggs the previous week, there were scores to be settled.  Could Carrick match the facilities, hospitality and competition of Creggs? Oh yes we could and we did, BIG time!!Home Blitz 2

Again, each of the age groups turned out in numbers, accompanied by a large band of Carrick Minis’ Supporters Club.  The weather was perfect for rugby and all the Carrick players were ready for a morning of great rugby.  Reports from each age group were completely positive and although there were wins and losses on both sides, the level of rugby was superb.  Again, congratulations from all the Carrick Coaches to each player who played brilliantly and were a credit to themselves and their club. We hope that all the parents let their children know that the effort put in by each Carrick and Creggs player was fantastic and the team work was great to see.

A big thank you to all the parents, family & friends who came to support the players.  Thank you too to the parents for supporting the club by bringing food and refreshments for the benefit of all our visitors and visitors from Creggs.  Special thanks to Esquires also for their generosity as well.

Under 10s IRFU Blitz in Ballina on 2/03/2013

Coaches Aidan & Liam will be travelling with the Under 10s to Ballina on the 02/03/2013. Parents are asked to meet for car pooling at the Arch at 8:45am for a 9am depart.  Players & parents will be forwarded a separate email with ‘Homework’ attached.  Don’t forget your Jerseys.

Mini CRFC Home Blitz on 02/03/2013

Both coach Donal Woods & parent Linda Reynolds are looking for volunteers to help out on the day of our home Blitz.  Donal will require parents to assist with supervision and clean up afterwards.  If you are available on the day, talk to Donal or any of the coaches.

Parents are asked if they are available to bring food, could they contact Linda at 086 3216565 and Linda will advise on the amount and what food is needed e.g. sandwiches/cakes/biscuits.  Both Linda and the club do not want an excessive amount of food, or waste, so Linda will only require parents to bring a small amount of food. Please call Linda at your earliest convenience so as to make the planning more effective.

Players are reminded; don’t forget your Jerseys.  Whilst parents are reminded to follow the IRFU Code of conduct for Parents/Spectators: click on ‘Important Forms’ on this web page (above) for more info.
